Our surroundings

Far away from the well-known crowded coastal areas, in the surprisingly green interior of Andalusia, lies the National Park of Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, with 210.000 ha the largest protected Nature Reserve in Spain. The Nature Reserve is situated in the province of Jaen, in the north-east of Andalusia. In 1986 this area with its botanical and zoological treasures was declared a nature reserve, before Unesco declared this areas to be a Biosphere Reserve and the European Union recognized the region as a Special Protected Area for birds. 

The Sierra de Las Villas, where the house is located, is the least known and also most virgin part of the Reserve. In this nature park with its high mountain ridges flows the Guadalquivir, Andalusia’s longest river. With its rough plateaus and green valleys, spectacular waterfalls, crystal clear streams and water basins, this unspoiled area is a paradise with rich flora and fauna. The views are breathtaking and on a clear day you can see the snow covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada.

To put in briefly: an overwhelmingly pure and untouched area, intense silence, fresh mountain air, and unlimited space where you can make beautiful walking or horse riding tours.

Access roads

From the main road a solid dirt road (apr. 300m) leads to the cortijo.
At 10 min. walking distance is bar-restaurant and a small mountain school (at this moment 6 pupils), which also accommodates a community centre and an astronomy observatory. 
Villages where you can find a covered market with daily fresh vegetables, fish and meat, supermarkets and banks, are at a driving distance of about 45 minutes.
At a distance of one hour are the monumental cities Ubeda and Baeza, with beautiful inner cities where its palaces and stately squares in Renaissance style reflecting a rich history. Both cities are on the Unesco world list of Cultural Heritage.
